Amy McElroy: The perception is that real estate insurance is a male dominated industry because that’s how the wider insurance industry is. I personally work with some exceptional women leaders who are doing the same job as me at other companies. There are only a handful of women in senior Insurance Risk Management positions in the industry currently and we are highly respected in our roles. I see opportunities for more talented women to join the ranks.

Stéphanie Duval-Sorgius: I think now is a great time for a young woman to consider a real estate career. There have been tremendous steps forward in the past 20 years and we are seeing more and more women establish themselves within Senior Management positions.

Jasmine Dillon: There are a huge range of opportunities across investment, asset and property management, sustainability, social value and my own area of focus in marketing, community and experience. These are all industry terms and one of the challenges our sector has is being open to everyone, so we have developed a toolkit to introduce real estate to young people with mini video intros to the key roles and an explainer of what we do in an effort to make it more accessible.

Elena Vakali: Real estate is such a wide-ranging sector, it truly offers something for everyone and caters for a diverse range of aspirations. From technical experts such as architects and engineers on the development side, to fund or portfolio managers and ESG experts on the management side, there are so many areas you can set a path in, not to mention the opportunity to move and reinvent yourself constantly within the sector. My background is in finance, but I was attracted to real estate by the opportunity to literally see and touch the underlying investments, something that a traditional finance career wouldn’t have offered me. And through the real estate lens, I got to travel to many different geographies and learn about many different cultures over time. It has also been a career in exploration of sorts.

Amy Soar: The potential is huge. There are so many different career paths which are ever evolving, so it is possible to have a squiggly career and create your own role. For example, when I started out in the industry there were very few roles in technology and sustainability but these are now huge areas of growth.
