Amy McElroy: So much is evolving in the real estate sector and there is an opportunity to create and define your role. My job description does not mirror what I do now as I’ve been able to pursue a career path based on my strengths and interests.
Blazena Grossmann: Roles within real estate are really varied, offering something for both women and men with different skillsets, education levels and personalities.
Stéphanie Duval-Sorgius: Real Estate is in constant evolution. To manage success, regardless of gender, it’s important to continue educating yourself alongside your daily work, stand by your ideas, and demonstrate your contribution. In my experience, women are generally very good at multi-tasking, which lends itself well to a career in real estate.
Katharina Banit: The industry offers great career opportunities and the ability to enhance a range of skillsets including communication skills, time management, problem-solving, technological skills, negotiating skills, industry and local knowledge, organizational skills, marketing skills, ethics and integrity. There is also a trend to more flexible working conditions – e.g., working on/off-site – and support of a sound work-life-balance.
Lucia Martinez-Noriega: There is a good mix of different capabilities you can achieve in the real estate sector, from the financial focused on real estate to management or operations. I believe is hard to find a sector where you can easily combine such different skills in one job.
Vanessa Gelado: The opportunities really are endless as property offers so many careers catering to a wide variety of different backgrounds. There are both front and back-office roles spanning anything from direct business generation to construction, engineering, finance, legal, marketing, compliance etc. Then there are operational roles taking care of individual buildings for example, concierge hospitality type pathways, construction roles and, of course, real estate asset and fund management careers. It means when CVs come across my desk, I’m always interested in the background of the applicant, and the ones who’ve had the most varied experiences tend to catch my eye. There is really no one set pathway. Being open minded, with a full 360-degree approach and having a strong work ethic will stand you in good stead.
Mary Edmunds: Hines encourages diversity across all of our teams. The skills, experience and leadership qualities that are needed are broad and invite unique views. I look for new ways to interview, explore candidate groups and identify talent to broaden our representation of women and minorities across our business. We know that diverse experience and backgrounds are vital to our creative and innovative success.
