Amy McElroy: You can have an incredibly rewarding career in real estate. Just be prepared to take risks and back yourself.
Fiona Hipkiss: I would say the same thing to anybody, not just women. What attracted me to real estate is the tangibility. You can see it, touch it, and get a real sense of the positive impact it can have on the beauty of an area and in the community where you are managing or developing a building.
Elena Vakali: First of all, I would strongly encourage young women to consider this sector. Real estate is both tangible and rewarding. It allows you to really add value by positively impacting the communities we live and work in. Also, the sector is full of diverse and interesting people to connect to and collaborate with, which makes for an exciting and stimulating environment to grow professionally in.
Amy Soar: There are so many roles and specialisms within real estate that there really is something for everyone. In my sector, Property Management, the role is constantly evolving and despite being in the business for almost 20 years, I am still learning new things everyday which keeps it interesting.
Katharina Banit: Real estate is an exciting but demanding industry thanks to continuous changes, new trends and different markets. Learning is a continuous, intrinsic aspect of a job in real estate, and it is a stable industry that can offer reliable lifetime careers.
Vanessa Gelado: It’s so tangible, you can really have an impact on shaping cities both today and in the future and it’s difficult to say that about many careers. Holistically speaking, developing, investing and managing real estate can make a difference to the lives of everyone through creating spaces for people to work, live, stay and play. On a practical level, problem-solving skills, people skills and attention to detail is very important as is planning ahead. These skills alongside having a vision and strong work ethic will see you go a long way in the industry.
Mary Edmunds: It’s an exciting and networked industry. There is so much to learn and so many ways to lead in real estate. From growing the built environment in communities to leading on ESG, there is a broad scope of opportunities for a rich career.
